More AGLOCO™ Facts —- Buyer Beware

I don’t know about you but this (paragraph 14 of the AGLOCOâ„¢ Terms Of Use) gives me some pause, for sure:  By registering or using this website and service you consent and submit to the exclusive jurisdiction and venue of Hong Kong, S.A.R. P.R.C.

Not to sound too old or too jingoistic here, but does anyone remember the Korean Conflict?  It wasn’t a war, war was never declared, but the entire free world joined together under the United Nations to repulse attacks against the Republic of South Korea by North Korea, supported fully by the People’s Republic of China.  Old history you say .. sure.  How about the purges, as in killings and imprisonments (still very much on-going by the way) of those in China who not only oppose the government, but merely want to practice their own religion?  Tiananmen Square ring any bells for anyone?  College kids ground under tank treads for simple peaceful protest regarding the blatant denial of human rights?  All these examples too old you say in your enthusiasm to latch on to a dream of sitting and surfing and getting paid for it pass before your eyes?  It’s the latest and greatest.  John Chow now has more than 6,000 suckers partners signed up and brags about it … why not join the club?

Well consider this.  Today, as I type this, the government of the People’s republic Of China actively restrict access to the Internet.  People in China can’t even read this post, I’m sure, because the PRC government spends a fortune on live Internet censors to restrict anti-government messages.  Even Google and Yahoo bow down to this restriction, but I don’t.  Unlike the majority of Americans, I have visited the PRC a number of times.  I’ve been delved into doing business there.  I doubt I ever will again.  It’s particularly interesting to seeing the push of this alleged product by Chinese-Americans and Chinese-Canadians who now live free of the oppression yet think nothing of blindly advocating others to sign-up.  Anyway, to each his own.

The biggest problem I see with AGLOCOâ„¢, beyond their ownership, is the lack of substance and their philosophy.  They probably will never be accused or sued for failing to deliver on their promises because, essentially, in return for the waste of your rime, the collection of tons of your private data … including credit, banking and tax information, they make no promises.

This “offering” is so far nothing more than a gigantic “squeeze page” that collects people’s personal and financial information.  They claim that in the future they will provide a tool bar tat will earn money so each search made.  Nothing wrong with that, many search engines actually use Google ort Yahoo’s search facility and earn money from it.  But you can do this yourself … and earn 100% of the (modest) pay for search revenue.  they claim that when they have a big enough user base they will negotiate higher rates of payment from such common Internet affiliate programs as Amazon.  Again, nothing evil there, but you can become an Amazon Associate today merely by signing up.  And if you do you’ll make 100% of whatever affiliate income you earn, rather than whatever portion AGLOCOâ„¢ sees fit to share with you.  No other revenue models are described, let alone promised.

And lastly I’ll add that AGLOCOâ„¢’s nonsensical tag line of : “Own The Internet” is offensive to me, and it should be to others who give a care about democracy, freedom and the rights of others.  I don’t “own” any  of the Internet and neither do you.  We are the Internet and the strength of the system relies upon this shared endeavor.  To many the Internet is still “owned” to more than a healthy degree by the US.  That point is open to anyone’s opinion.  But tell me why otherwise intelligent and right-thinking individuals would advocate any commercial venture, even in jest, proposing that individuals of a certain group should “own” the Internet.  It rankles and it’s dumb.  Think twice or even three times about who you want your partners in life to be … a bad decision can’t be taken back.
