A little something about you, the author. Nothing lengthy, just an overview.
Making the Best use of the Atomic Blogging Theme
Autor Talar
I just got this theme installed and it still needs some tweaking, but I am really very happy with it. All theme need tweaking, some bloggers don’t quite notice some of the tweaks they ought to make, though. That’s one of our prime goals here at Talar Systems … we’ll be happy to help you with tweaks and customization until you get it right.
One of the things I need to do RSN (real Soon Now) is to get ads running in the 125 x 125 ad boxes in the right hand column. Interestingly enough this was one of the last comments made on Alvin’s (the site author/designer) blog. JoAnne asked about codes to replace the "Advertise Here" sample ad buttons with working ones.
Obviously these are designed to be filled up with paid advertising slots, when clients who want to buy advertising come along. But for those of us just starting out with this theme … well, we have no clients. So, should we just leave the "semi-ugly" sample ad boxes in there? I don’t like the look of them. Take them out? That’s easy enough to do, but then no potential advertisers will notice that spots are available …and later, when the sidebar starts to fill up it may be hard to gain back the space.
How to find and attract advertisers is a whole subject in itself. Here’s something I have done on several of my "Just getting started" blogs.
Give the ad spots away to other bloggers or online friends who might like some exposure. I have a good friend who runs a large number of blogs. I run (usually in random, alternating order) some 125 x 125 ads for several of his blogs, while I wait for customers to order and pay for "real" ads.
This keeps my sites attractive and alive. It gets my friend a few clickthoughs from readers of mine who click the links and head to his blog after reading mine. But more important, since he runs some buttons for me, in return, I have gotten a lot of traffic and even some dedicated readers through this free exchange.
I’ll be happy to host a 125×125 button here for any Atomic Blogging user, as long as that person will host one in return for me.
Some people are, of course, going to say, "What, I can’t make money doing that". And, you’re totally welcome to that view. But if you want to do this on a free exchange basis and gain some traffic for both parties, I am open to talking to you. Just leave a comment on this post or contract me directly via my contact page. Wishing you Success.

Thank you for you helpful remarks about how to use those 125×125 boxes on my blog.
Now I have to figure out how to insert the code and also the image it does’nt look blank or totally messed up!
What a great idea - I should do blog ad exchanges with them like you have described.
Please get back to me as to how you do it at some point when you are free.
Hi Joanne, thanks for visiting and for your kind comment. I really can’t just publish instructions for replacing those buttons, because what you have to do depends on the buttons you put in place of the “dummy” ones. I’ll try to post a couple samples tomorrow, if I have the time. Have you edited any of the theme codes at all before, such as adding code for couters, sidebar images, etc.?
I am interested and willing to swap ads.
Only I have no clue how or where to insert the ads.
I take is done thru the adboxes but where exactly do insert my links??
Hi Joanne (and others interested in banner ad placement). Here’s a neat tool that will solve the issue. (this is not an affiliate link, just something I think is worthwhile)
