It makes servers simpler to operate and costs less.

So the way I see it, you have two choices … get on the train or get left behind. You don’t want to be left standing on the platform, do you? If your company gets downsized or gets gobbled in a merger, how do you think they will decide which IT people to keep and which to cut? It won’t be the ones who saved the most, it will be the ones who DID the most.

Microsoft Virtualization Strategy Coming Together
By Lee Pender
First, an editor’s note: I’ll be on the vacation for the next few weeks. A real vacation — one that doesn’t involve checking e-mail or listening to voice mails. (Yes, those vacations still exist — or, at least, I think they do. I guess I’ll find out.) Anyway, RCP Editor-in-Chief Scott Bekker will be taking over RCPU until I return roundabout the middle of August. Bekker’s a fly blogger with mad skillz… Seriously, he’s very good, and I just hope that he doesn’t steal my regular audience of readers (or, in any case, that he gives you back to me when I return). Enjoy his stuff, and I’ll see you in August. And thanks, as always, for reading, even in the dog days of summer.

Let’s not even pretend that this has been an interesting news week for Microsoft followers. Tonight’s earnings will provide plenty of fodder, sure — but, for the time being, it’s a famine after last week’s Worldwide Partner Conference news feast.

So, today, we have the final pieces of Microsoft’s virtualization product offering falling into place. Specifically, we now know that Virtual Machine Manager will ship in the fourth quarter of calendar 2008 and will not have to be bundled with the over-named System Center Server Management Suite Enterprise.

So, whether you’re psyched about Hyper-V or less than enthused, at least now you know more of the details. And that’s what’s passing for news this week. (Click here to comment.)

I’ve been watching a number of my on-line business associates having difficulties with responsiveness. A friend recently sent out a request for proposals (Bid Tender) for a non-trivial web development job … one that has a 5 figure budget and would also result in a lot of favorable public exposure for the successful bidder.

My friend was pretty frustrated. Not because the responses he received bad, or because they were over budget …

But because more Than 59% of the Invitations He Sent Were Not Responded To!

Any chance that your business is missing opportunities every day simply because you don’t respond to them promptly?

Technology Professional,

Imagine a situation where you would have to maintain four different cars, one to use for the grocery store, one to take the kids to school, another to drive to work with, and one for out of town driving. Sounds expensive? It sure is, not to mention the fact that much of your time would be wasted on switching between different cars. In IT, many datacenters accommodate more than one scheduling solution, often deploying one for each of their major platforms and applications. While historically this approach has offered good automation capabilities for specific platforms, it is now apparent that it is not only costly, but fails to accomplish the automation efficiencies required to meet current operational demand. Join this webinar to learn about the benefits of Enterprise Scheduling as well as operational savings that go along with consolidating to a single solution across the enterprise.
