Hopefully you came here because you read the first article in this series and you have been eagerly awaiting my second installment
(yeah, right, LoL). If you haven’t read the first installment, the links is right above where your eyes are focused as you read this ..I use a great WordPress Plug-in call In Series to make reading multi-part articles easy for you, my readers.
OK, I told you that doing something was the single most important thing you could do to get started, correct? What’s secret number two? Easy. Learn! ($$$)

Now I don’t mean go back to formal school or do anything that’s terminally boring, but you must get you mind open and start believing in yourself. You already know how to be successful, but the problem most of you have is, you won’t allow yourself to succeed. From time to time as I write this series I may try to sell you something like a product that will actually require you to invest in your future success. Don’t worry, though, I’ll clearly note any time I might chose to do this, though.
Right now I am going to sell you something of great value, literally infinite value to you, and it won’t cost you a dime. The product? It’s Y-O-U.
I don’t care if you are a teenager who thinks they know nothing trying to earn a hundred bucks to buy an iPod or some other trendy item, a single mom trying to bring in an extra few bucks a day so your kids can get their teeth fixed, a formerly successful business executive who just found out that J,O.B,s (Just Over Broke) are not forever, or a retiree who suddenly found that your 401k (and other government-sanctioned scams of the working man) is not worth the paper its terms of service are printed on.
YOU (and actually only you, if you think about it) can initiate your own success. Are you ready to take the journey, or are you going to lag behind and wait to see how the rest of us who have decided to jump on the train are doing?
Sit and watch if you wish, but remember one thing about that course of action … unlike your final destination if you choose to actually do something, I can guarantee your success if you sit and wait … zero. nada. Nothing. Einstein is credited with the saying, “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result”.
You already know the result of doing nothing … else you wouldn’t even have found this article about Home Based Business … you are taking the first step away from that TV or sitting in the old folks home complaining about how much the government isn’t providing for you.
So let me leave you today with this one action … build a business plan … or more accurately a plan to succeed. And I don’t mean one of those 30 page super color graphics sort of business school plans (unless you really believe in them … this is one formal planning tool I recommend if you do want to go formal … $$$ not free)
What I mean is one like my plan:
- I will provide information that people need.
- As they come to find the information they need, I will provide everything I can from my own resources
- I will recommend (and collect sales commission for providing same) quality products that will actually help them on their journey.
- In addition I will also provide commercialized information (for which I will be paid) as visitors make me aware of what they have a real need for.
Can it get much simpler than that? I said this chapter was about learning … so you probably thought it would be full of all sorts of technical subjects and buzzwords like ‘affiliate marketing’ and “PPC” and “SEO” and all that other stuff that makes you eyes glaze when it is new and strange to you.
Nope, the first step in the learning process is to learn something about yourself. Many of you may not be interested in being a “publisher” or an “Information provider”. That is great. In fact it would be boring if everyone wants to do the same thing.
What will you do, with your own unique talents and desires to succeed?
… Again here is one paid commercial product that really has some good answers inside that I recommend as a learning tool in the process of building your own, income producing venture …
but there is no need to buy into anything, except yourself, to start the journey.

Make Money at Home — Proven
Years ago, long before the internet came along my mom worked for a fellow with a really cute little work at home business. He literally worked from home … his one car garage was filled with printed products, mailing supplies and my mom’s desk. She would sit and open mail for a couple hours in the morning, writing names on address labels and putting checks and cash (yes people used to send cash in the mail) into neat piles for bank deposits, and then she spent the afternoon stuffing the product into envelopes and applying the address labels and stamps. On her way home she went to the post office to drop off the outbound mail and through the drive-through window of her employer’s bank to make deposit of the checks and cash that had come in that day.
The product? Simply little 12 or 14page manual about how to fix hydraulic jacks that, well, wouldn’t jack any more. It’s something the business owner had learned in a couple years working for a repair company who paid him a pittance to repair jacks. He just took what he learned and wrote down the simple parts, and had a little mini-booklet printed and set out to sell it.
Now how did he sell it? Well that’s the interesting part. With no Internet and no chance of making mass market media like TV or radio spots work, he looked at special interest magazines … “Popular Science” was one of his best advertising venues .. world-wide circulation and not too high a price for a little classified add in the back.
But could you start a business from a classifies ad? How would you know if it would work? Well my mom’s boss explained his secret to me, and it was dirt-simple. read magazine you think your prospects might also read. Look sat the ads to see if one of yours would ‘fit’. Then go to the library and look up issues of that magazine from 5 or more years ago, noting who was advertising then who still is advertising today … if you see many ‘familiar faces’, bingo … ads in that magazine produce, since people have been paying for them for years and years.
Well today, the Internet is my “Popular Science”. But the same key ways of deciding what is worthwhile hold true. At least 5 years ago I started making money online, and one of the ‘regulars’ I came across was a lady name of Rosalind Gardner. Here’s a little excerpt of her journey….
This is the amazing true story of how a woman with NO business experience became a Super Affiliate earning $500,000+ (*) per year selling other people’s stuff online .

Dear Aspiring Affiliate Marketer,
Although I hate the term and don’t own a tiara, my colleagues call me the “Affiliate Marketing Queen“.
A January 2009 trade magazine pegs me as the female affiliate marketer (since 1998) with the most experience.
Over the years, thousands of ‘regular, non-technical folks’ (just like you — and me) have learned how to start and run their own successful affiliate marketing businesses using the methods I teach in the Super Affiliate Handbook (and as an industry expert speaker, magazine columnist and consultant) and YOU can learn them too!
I teach by example – using my own affiliate sites’>my own affiliate sites. From blog installation, to design, content creation and all methods of marketing – I STILL do it all. (Note: Many other affiliate training packages use MY affiliate sites as examples without my permission. That’s because those so-called ‘trainers’ don’t have affiliate sites. They pretend to be working affiliates to take your money, but they don’t have any real experience.)
So, if you’re tired of bogus claims and hype and want to learn how affiliate marketing really works, keep reading’>keep reading …
As Rosalind says, your search can end here, just the way my mom’s employer built a whole successful work at home business out of a simple magazine ad .. merely by leveraging knowledge and common sense he already had. Well you leverage yours? This is a fork in your road, as Yogi once said, “Take It”.’>This is a fork in your road, as Yogi once said, “Take It”.
